The Ultimate Groomsmen & Best Man Survival Guide

filed in

Last week, I blogged about The Ultimate Bridesmaid & Maid Of Honor Survival Guide. This week, we’re giving the boys some helpful tips with The Ultimate Groomsmen & Best Man Survival Guide! Let’s break down everything you need to know heading into your best friend’s big day, and how to support him in real, tangible ways. Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about you guys. You’re just as important in making this day smooth, fun, and meaningful!

Show Up, Suit Up, Be Ready

Being a groomsman or best man isn’t just about standing in a line for a few photos. It’s about showing up and being present for your friend. That means arriving on time, double-checking your tux situation (yes, that includes socks and a belt), and staying tuned in. If you’re celebrating in College Station or anywhere else in Texas, expect a hot day. So hydrate early, and don’t wait until you’re sweating through your dress shirt to realize you should’ve started drinking water yesterday. Keep it simple, keep it solid!

Get Photo-Ready Without Complaints

Yes, there will be photos. Lots of them. It’s not just about standing still and smiling, it’s about being present. Keep your phone out of your hand (and your pockets!) and be ready to jump into action when the photographer calls you over. And a little pro tip? Throw on your jacket when it’s time for portraits and straighten your tie. You don’t want to be that guy in the wedding album.

Be the Calm in the Chaos

Weddings can get a little hectic, and sometimes the groom just needs someone to keep him laughing…. or remind him where his vows are. That’s where you come in! Be the guy who stays calm, cracks a good joke, and keeps the mood light. If you’re the best man, take initiative!! Check the schedule. Make sure the groom eats. College Station weather doesn’t wait for anyone, so if there’s an outdoor ceremony, help make sure things move smoothly so no one’s melting in the sun. Keep the groom (& his bride) hydrated!

Bring the Good Vibes (And Keep Them There)

Your energy matters. If you’re hyped up and engaged, it spreads. Help keep the groom grounded and positive, and don’t let nerves take over. The morning of the wedding isn’t the time to go rogue or disappear with the groomsmen for hours. Have fun, but know when to reel it in. One of the best things you can do is just be fully present and ready for whatever your friend needs, whether that’s a last-minute Target run, helping calm down the ring bearer, or a last minute pep talk!

Celebrate, Don’t Steal the Show

Once the “I do’s” are done, it’s time to party…but don’t forget you’re still part of the wedding team! Give a solid speech but keep it short, meaningful, and appropriate (save the bachelor party stories for another day). You’re representing your friendship and the couple, do it with pride! Help guests find their seats, and be a friendly face on the dance floor full of energy and excitement! Make the most of every moment and support the couple all the way through the sparkler exit.

Being a groomsman or best man in your best friend’s wedding is something you’ll never forget. It’s not about perfection, it’s about presence. So whether you’re helping with boutonnières or handing him a cold drink between portraits, your role matters. If you’re prepping for a Texas wedding or planning one right here in College Station, keep these tips close! You’re part of the reason the day feels so good. Kind Words

“Katelyn makes EVERYONE not only LOOK amazing in their photos, but feel good too.
She is a funny and down to earth person, that knows how to create stunning images that take you right back to the moment. The variety she got blew me away during our shoot, details of my ring, close ups, portraits, and wide shots without me even realizing that she was doing. She is also the queen of detail photos on a wedding day… they are stunning and never disappoint!”
